The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be an extremely difficult game for some players. This is especially true if you aren't used to the way that Zelda games are played. It is so important to make sure that your items are leveling alongside you.
Thankfully, the developers added the ability to enhance your armor. This lets you create stronger armor by giving certain items to the Great Fairies. You can also use different meals or potions to increase your damage and defense. This will let you play the game much easier.
How To Increase Defense
Defense is an extremely important stat in most RPGs. After all, the more you have, the stronger your character is. If you don't have any, you can easily die. If you have a ton, you can take on the most powerful foes in the game. If you want to increase your defense, you can do so in one of two ways. Either you can enhance your armor at a Great Fairy Fountain, or you can cook something up that will help Link tremendously with his defense.
The Great Fairies
The Great Fairies are the best way to increase your defense. They are also the only way to permanently increase your defense. However, they will only increase the defense of certain items, meaning you'll need to upgrade all the armor sets you use on a regular basis.
If you want to be able to enhance armor at the Great Fairy Fountains, you will need to unlock all four fountains to do so. Each one can be found in a different area of Hyrule. For an in-depth guide on the Great Fairies, check out this guide here.
You must complete a pretty lengthy quest if you want to unlock them all. However, once they are unlocked, you can enhance your armor to the highest level. The quest is also pretty easy, it just takes some time to complete the entire thing.
The Great Fairies will ask which piece you want to enhance. Underneath the name of the item, you can see how much your defense will increase from the enhancement. For example, enhancing the Hylian Tunic from level 2 to level 3 will increase the defense from 8 to 12.
Almost all sets of armor will have a second set bonus from enhancing the full set to level 2.
Cooking Meals And Elixirs
The second way to increase your defense is by cooking. Link can create different meals or elixirs that have the Tough bonus.
Tough meals (made by cooking anything that increases defense) will increase Link's defense for a certain amount of time. The more of the ingredient with the defense boost that is put into a meal, the better the meal will be.
If you use a Rugged Rhino Beetle and a Monster Part, you can create a Tough Elixir. This will also increase Link's defense. The more Rugged Rhino Beetles you put in, the better the buff will be for Link.
