Weather effects are back in The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, and it has added more to the adventure of the players in the game. With the constantly changing weather and its effects, surviving in bad conditions is challenging for the players.
While exploring the vast biome of Hyrule, the players will often encounter adverse weathers that can affect their health. There are six types of weather in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom. While some weather doesn't affect the players, a few weather conditions can make their survival harder if they are unprepared.
How To Change Weather
Not all types of weather have effects on the players. Weathers like Sunny or Cloudy are generally harmless and might be the best weather to explore and enjoy the world of Hyrule. However, facing adverse weather can be a challenge. Thankfully there are several methods by which the players can change the weather in Tears of the Kingdom.
Some locations have fixed weather and cannot be changed. So the players must carry the necessary items and armor when passing or completing any quest in these areas. Examples are Rabella Wetlands which always have rainy weather, Mount Lanayru due to its snowy terrains, and Gerudo Desert for Sandstorms.
The first thing to do to keep yourself safe from bad weather is to keep track of the weather forecast. The upcoming weather can be viewed at the bottom right corner of the screen, just beside the mini-map. So, always try to be aware of the weather that might be coming, and prepare yourself accordingly.
Get Some Sleep
One of the easiest ways to change the weather is by letting Link sleep in a bed. Find any inn or stable to get a bed for Link and take a sleep. You can also use emergency shelters for sleeping, but they are hard to find. When getting a bed for Link, you can choose how long you want Link to sleep. There are three options to sleep and pass your time:
- Morning: 5 AM
- Noon: 12 PM
- Night: 9 PM
Sleeping will not only pass the time for Link but also grant him some extra hearts and bits of stamina.
Sit Beside The Campfire
If you cannot find a place to sleep, you can also pass the time while sitting beside a campfire or a cooking pot. However, it is essential to remember that there will be no fire in the campfire in any open space during rain or thunderstorm.
You can create a campfire by striking flint with wood or throwing a fire fruit on them. Once you are near the campfire, you can choose how long you want to sit by the fire. This is similar to choosing how long you want to sleep, and the time passes similarly.
Wait In A Safe Place
Passing your time by sleeping or waiting by the campfire is not the only way to change the weather. You can just take shelter in any safe location and wait for the weather to improve. The weather changes every three hours in Zelda: Tears Of Kingdom, which is three minutes in real life.
How To Survive In Cold Weather
There are a lot of cold regions on the map of Hyrule. Even if you don't like cold regions, there is no way you can avoid this weather during your adventure. Several quests will require you to travel through these snowy areas and terrains.
To avoid getting damaged from cold weather, it's important to have higher cold resistance. Link can get temporary cold resistance by cooking and eating spicy dishes. Spicy Sauteed Peppers dish is an easy-to-make dish that will give you temporary cold resistance for 12 minutes and 30 seconds. Ingredients like Spicy Peppers, Warm Darner Dragonflies, Warm Saffline, and Sunshrooms can be used to cook dishes and gain cold resistance.
Some recipes that can provide Cold Resistance are:
- Sauteed Peppers
- Tomato Mushroom Stew
- Spicy Simmered Fruit
- Spicy Elixir
However, if you need more ingredients to cook, survival in the cold region can get tough for you. So, getting a permanent cold resistance from Archaic armor can be helpful. You can get the Archaic Warm Greaves near the Shrine of Gutanbac. You can also buy the Snowquill Armor from the Rito Village in the Hebra Mountains.
How To Survive In Hot Weather
You will have to travel to several places with extreme heat. To survive in Hot weather, Link will need higher heat resistance which can be gained from heat-resistant dishes cooked with ingredients like Meat, Hydromelons, or Chillshrooms. Eating frozen dishes will also give you heat resistance.
Some recipes that can provide Heat Resistance are:
- Icy Meat
- Icy Prime Meat
- Icy Gourmet Meat
- Frozen Bird Drumstick
- Frozen Bird Thigh
- Frozen Whole Bird
- Mushroom Skewer
- Fish Skewer
- Meat and Seafood Fry
- Mushroom Rice Balls
- Fruit and Mushroom Mix
- Chilly Elixir
You can get permanent heat resistance from the Desert Voe Armor. This armor set is available for sale in the Kara Kara Bazaar. Using ice weapons will also give you a bit of heat resistance, but they might not always be effective.
How To Survive In Rain And Thunderstorm
Rain and thunderstorm have the most weather effect on Link. During rain, Link will find it very difficult to climb the cliffs as they become more slippery. The flame arrows also don't work during rain or thunderstorm and will turn into normal arrows. Link can also get struck by lightning if he has a metal weapon or item equipped during a thunderstorm. Staying in any open field also increases the chance of getting thunderstruck.
If you are in any open space, try to find shelter and wait until the thunderstorm passes. If you cannot find shelter, make sure you unequipped any metal item. You can also get the Thunder Helm or Rubber Set from the Whistling Cave near the Teniten Shrine, which will give Link shock resistance.
