The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom brings back the durability system from the previous game. While weapons still break after a bit of use, the fusion ability helps your further their durability while also making the weapon more powerful.

While fusion allows weapons to last a bit longer, they still end up breaking, and usually at the worst times. While this method does require a few steps and should be saved for only your most prized weapons, Tears Of The Kingdom does offer players a way to fix nearly broken weapons.

How To Fix Your Gear

Link Selecting A New Weapon That Has Been Fixed

This method allows players to fix weapons, shields, and bows, repairing their durability back to their max. This method also only works before a weapon is broken, as once the weapon breaks, it is gone for good. To fix something's durability, you'll first need to find an Octorock enemy. These are timid octopus-type enemies that will hide as you approach but inhale and fire projectiles at you from a distance.

To repair a piece of gear, drop it onto the ground in front of an Octorock, and wait for them to use their inhale ability. They will inhale the item, and players will hear a chewing sound coming from the monster, followed by another sound and sparkle effect indicating the weapon has been fixed. While the weapon has been fixed, you'll need to get it back. Either wait for the monster to shoot the weapon back at you or defeat it for the weapon to be dropped on the ground. Defeating enemies to drop the weapon is the easier method, as each monster can only repair one weapon.

Where To Find Octorocks

An Octorock Repairing Link's Weapon

Octorocks are found in the northeastern Rocky Mountain areas. They will often hide in the ground, jumping up to launch a rock at Link as your walk by. These monsters will often spawn around the paths leading through this region, making simple exploration the best method to find them.

After an Octorock has been used to fix a weapon, it cannot be used again and should be killed. After the seventh in-game day, a Blood Moon will appear, and all the monsters of the land will respawn. This will also respawn any Octorock you have killed and allow you to return to the newly spawned creatures to use them to fix a new gear piece. This does limit the number of gear pieces you can fix in the seven-day period, but the results are worth the effort on powerful gear pieces.
