One new addition in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the addition of what is known as Gloom. This is the black tar substance that has red glowing through it. You may find this stuff littering The Depths or the surface level of Hyrule around areas where there are chasms.

What makes Gloom so annoying is the fact that it will take away your Hearts and not let you restore them. This can be extremely detrimental to someone who is just starting out. This guide will help you figure out ways to heal yourself from the Gloom.

Updated by Erin Rice on June 12, 2023: The longer Tears of the Kingdom is out, the more players are able to find out about certain items and mechanics. This update added The Depths Armor and how it can help with Gloom. It also added areas to farm Sundelions in order to ensure readers are able to find the vital plants.

Find A Lightroot

When you are down in The Depths, it can be extremely hard to know where to go, especially if you don't have all the Lightroots activated yet. These Lightroots will light up a large amount of area at a time as well as let you see where you are on the map. When you have lost health to Gloom, you can find one of these Lightroots and activate it. This will allow you to heal from it. However, it only heals the Gloom, you will need to replenish your Hearts another way.

Return To The Surface

Another way to heal yourself from Gloom is to return to the surface after you have been infected by it. Returning to the surface will heal the Gloom and allow you to replenish the Hearts you have lost. However, sometimes, you may run into Gloom while exploring the surface. If this happens, and you need to be healed from the Gloom, traveling somewhere else, far away from that area with the Gloom, will allow you to be healed and replenish those hearts you lost.

The Depths Armor Set

The Depths Armor set is one of the sets that can be found in the game. This set is a unique set in that it offers hearts for the player to lose to Gloom before losing your own hearts. If you enhance the full set to level 2, you will not lose hearts to Gloom attacks. This set can be obtained by finding the Bargainer Statues in The Depths and trading Poes for the armor set. If you want an easy way to avoid losing hearts, this is the perfect set for you.

Sundelions

The final way to heal from Gloom is to use Sundelions. These plans will allow you to heal from Gloom when you cook them in a meal. The more Sundelions you cook, the more hearts that can be healed from Gloom from a single dish. It's recommended that you not travel to The Depths without a dish that was cooked with Sundelions. These dishes are called "sunny" dishes. They will allow you to heal from Gloom no matter where you are. This can mean life or death if you're caught exploring and aren't near a Lightroot and can't leave.

How To Farm Sundelions

If you want to farm Sundelions on the surface level, look around areas that have fallen ruins. A great place to look is around the Tarrey Town Construction Zone. The quest Mattison's Independence requires you to look around this area for Sundelions.
