Many secrets are buried deep inside the realm of Hyrule. These mysteries are ready to be exposed, but the players must overcome barriers and travel over challenging conditions before reaching them. Three such secrets can be discovered through the Colossal Fossil Quests.

The regions explored in the three side quests are filled with several minerals and ingredients that you can farm.

How To Start Colossal Fossil Quests

Eldin's Colossal Fossil side quest is the first of three Colossal Fossil Quests. To begin this side quest, players must first meet Loone in the Akkala area. She'll be the one to assign Link the side quest. She can be found at the East Akkala Stable.

When you approach the stable, take the path to the northeast that leads to the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. You will find her around the coordinates 4338, 2818, 0142. When you start conversing with Loone, she will ask whether you like ancient things; choose "Ancient things?" and the quest will begin after your conversation ends.

Following your conversation with Loone in Akkala, the location of the Eldin Colossal Fossil will be highlighted on your map. It is located in the region of the Eldin Mountains' northern side. The nearest fast-travel location is the Mayak Shrine. You can fast-travel to the shrine and then head towards the east from the shrine. In the marked location, you will find the Eldin Great Skeleton.

If you go beneath the skeleton, you will find some rocks, each of which has a round white skull wedged inside it. You can use Yunobo's power of fire to break down the rocks, or you can use any other method you please. The skull will become accessible after all of the rocks in the area around it have been broken. The spherical skull represents the eye of the Eldin Great Skeleton.

You must use your Ultrahand ability to pick up the spherical skeleton and then proceed to the left side of the head of the Skeleton. As can be seen, the creature is missing its left eye. The eye must then be positioned into the socket that was previously carved out of the skull. You'll need to spin the eye in order to get it back into its socket.

After you are done placing the eye back, talk with Loone. She will be standing just in front of the Skeleton’s head. She will then reward you with 50 purple rupees. After giving your rewards, Loone will mark the location of the Hebra’s Colossal Fossil side quest on your map.

Hebra’s Colossal Fossil Walkthrough

hebra colossal fossil location

After you have completed Eldin’s Colossal Fossil side quest, the next one will start immediately. Hebra’s Colossal Fossil is located in the Hebra North Summit. Three fast-travel points are near the fossil’s location on -3880, 3692, 0223. The fossil is placed inside a cave, so you cannot directly reach it. You must go to it through a cave near the given coordinates. You can fast-travel to Kahatanaum Shrine in the Sky Islands and then glide towards the location easily. You can also teleport to Otak Shrine and then head east or teleport to Eutoum Shrine and head northwest to reach the location. However, if you travel there on foot, you will have to traverse the mountain, so plan accordingly.

After reaching the Hebra North Summit, go to the coordinates -3815, 3595, 0256 to discover the cave opening that leads to the fossil. It's a long cave, so keep walking until you encounter Loone, who will inform you that the fossil's fins and spine bones are missing. For you to complete the side mission, you must locate these two bones and place them on the body of the fossil. The fin bone is easier to find, so let's start with that first. You can find the fin bone just in front of the location you and Loone were standing. To make it easier, here’s the coordinate: -4003, 3681, 0181. You will notice the bone stuck in the wall. Break the rocks with Yunobo’s fire charge or any other explosive you have in your arsenal. Once you have broken all the rocks around it, pick up the bone with your Ultrahand ability. Take it near the Fossil, rotate it as it would fit, and place it between the three other bones on the wall.

Afterward, head towards the coordinate -4056, 3759, 0153, and you will find the spine bone stuck inside a big slab of ice. You must melt the ice to get the spine bone from inside it and then place it on the fossil’s body. You can create a fire near the ice with Wood and Flint. The fire will slowly start melting the ice. You can also fuse an arrow with Fire Fruit on the ice. After the ice melts, pick up the Spine bone with your Ultrahand ability and place it on the Fossil’s body. You must rotate the bone to the perfect angle so it fits. To fit, you must rotate the bone to the proper angle. The simplest approach to do this is to align the bone's center with the body and then rotate it in a circular motion. You will eventually find the ideal position, and the bone will fit itself.

After you have placed both the bones in the body, go back to Loone and talk with her. She will then reward you with 50 purple rupees and tell you about another leviathan in the Gerudo region.

Gerudo’s Colossal Fossil Walkthrough

gerudo colossal fossil location

The Gerudo's Colossal Fossil is the third and final fossil that you need to discover in order to complete the side quest. It can be found in the Gerudo Desert around the coordinates -3881, 3694, 0223. The fossil may be found at the bottom left-hand corner of the map (to the southwest). The Lightning Temple is the nearest location for a fast travel point. Because the Gerudo Great Skeleton is buried beneath the sand, the only way for the players to access it is to go inside the cave close to the coordinates -4747, -3859, and 0078.

After you have teleported to the Lightning temple, use the ability Ascend to climb to the top of the building. You will be able to glide to the location of the cave that was specified in the coordinates from there. If you get to the very bottom of the cave, you'll find Loone waiting for you there. After speaking with Loone, you will be required to position the child leviathan's fossil next to the fossil of its parent. You should be able to locate all of the body parts within the cave; after that, all that is left to do is gather them and put them in the appropriate slots.

You will see a head lying on the ground immediately in front of you, so that makes one. The next step is locating the remaining body and tail bones. From there, go towards the area of the cave that is located to the northwest. You have to climb to the top of the parental fossil. Utilizing Ascend will make climbing to the summit of the mountain much simpler. If you look up, you should be able to discover some rocks that you can break. Make use of an explosive arrow fusion, similar to the one you used to shatter the rocks in the earlier tasks. Once all of the rocks have been shattered, make use of your Ultrahand ability to pick up the body, move it to the head, and then position it there.

The next step is to locate the bones that make up the tail. Near the coordinates -4924, -3866, -0058, the tail is hidden in the sand, but you may uncover it by using the fan that you will discover in the sand dunes or by utilizing Tulin's wind ability.

Once you have obtained the tail, you can use the Ultrahand ability to attach it to the body of the creature. You'll need to rotate the tail to make it fit, and you'll want to ensure that you remember to attach it with the end of the spine and not the ribs. After you have joined the body and the tail together, bring the head in with the Ultrahand, and then combine it with the rest of the body you had previously assembled.

After putting together the whole Skeleton, position it such that it is adjacent to the fossil of the parent, and then speak with Loone to claim your prize of fifty rupees.

You can remove the sand using the Zonai fan, or Tulin's Vow of Wind and collect chests buried under the sand.
