In Tears of the Kingdom, not all locals of Lurelin Village return immediately after the village is restored to its former glory. Some are still out in Hyrule, unaware of what’s happening in their beloved home village after the monsters took over.
The Side Adventure, A Way to Trade, Washed Away, sees Link inviting one such resident back to Lurelin Village all the way from Lookout Landing. Garini is hanging about the General Store and will be ecstatic to return to Lurelin, provided you help him along the way.
How To Start A Way to Trade, Washed Away
Before you’re able to invite Garini back to Lurelin Village, you will have to restore it completely by completing the “Ruffian-Infested Village” and the “Lurelin Village Restoration Project” side quests. Once the village is in pristine condition, you can begin inviting back residents.
To start the quest, talk to Garini in Lookout Landing after completing the prerequisites. He is located at the General Shop. Talk to him, and you’ll overhear him talking to Mubs about how he longs to return to his hometown. Link will inform him that the village is restored completely, and he will be ecstatic, rewarding you with Mighty Salt Grilled Crab.
He will immediately head out to return to Lurelin Village. Head back to the village yourself by teleporting to the Sifumim Shrine, and you’ll find him at the wooden pier (2959, -3492, 0001) leading out into the ocean from the center of Lurelin Village.
Talk to him, and he will say that he needs a boat to rebuild his floating shop. All his boats have gotten misplaced, likely near Tenoko Island, because of the pirate monsters that took over.
Where To Find Tenoko Island
Your task now is to find Garini’s boat and bring it back to him. Tenoko Island is fairly close to the shore, but you’ll need a boat to get there at the following coordinates: 3996. -3008, 0000. It is marked by a single palm tree.
There are Zonai devices and wooden planks along the shore leading out of the village. Use these parts to create a boat and head to Tenoko Island. Or, you can take the easy way out like us and create a hoverbike to reach the island. The location for the Zonai parts is marked on the map.
How To Bring Back Garini’s Boat
At Tenoko Island, you’ll find a few wooden boats and some Zonai devices. You only need to bring back one boat to complete the quest, so that’s what we’ll do. Power up the boat by attaching Zonai devices to it, as pictured below. Use Ultrahand to position it correctly in the ocean.
Drive the boat back to the village to where Garini is standing. A short cutscene will play, and Garini will accept one boat to build his floating shop with and reward you with a Star Fragment, marking “A Way To Trade, Washed Away” complete.
Doing this favor for Garini also has the additional benefit of unlocking the services of his shop. Which, in true Lurelin fashion, is completely free for Link to use. Just walk in and take anything you like.
