Side Adventures in Tears of the Kingdom are short and sweet, giving players an opportunity to get a glimpse into the lives and struggles of the residents of Hyrule without being too tedious about it.
A Letter To Koyin is a side adventure you will need to complete in order to advance the Mayoral Election in Hateno Village and get Cece’s Hat and the opportunity to lower the Hylian Hood.
Starting 'A Letter To Koyin'
Koyin is a resident of Hateno Village. She can be found standing at the edge of a pond in the Hateno Pasture as you make your way up to Hateno Village Research Lab. Talk to Koyin, and she will ask you to retrieve the bottle that’s floating in the pond. Apparently, there is a message inside that she needs to read. You can find the message bottle by activating Ultrahand. The outline of the bottle will be highlighted.
How To Retrieve Koyin’s Bottle
The easiest way to retrieve the bottle is to cut down some neighboring trees and attach the logs together to form a makeshift pole. Use that pole as a means for retrieving the bottle in the pond. Simply attach the bottle to the pole using Ultrahand’s fusion mechanic and pull it back to shore.
You can also create a raft and use a Korok-fused weapon to make a sailboat and ride it out into the pond. Then, retrieve the bottle by using Ultrahand on it directly and place it back on shore.
Either way, once you have the bottle, drop it in front of Koyin. A short cutscene will play, and she will read the message in the bottle and ask you to return to her home to get rewarded.
'A Letter To Koyin' Rewards
Turns out the message was a recipe for Hateno Cheese all along. Koyin will reward you with a single piece of Hateno Cheese and send you on your merry way. Additionally, now that Koyin has learned how to make Hateno Cheese, she will start stocking her shop with it, giving you the opportunity to buy some at 20 Rupees a pop or trade it for Fresh Milk. You can also buy Hateno Cheese in Lookout Landing General Shop after completing “A Letter To Koyin.”
