If you want the true ending to Tears of the Kingdom, you're going to need to work for it. Many players will just see the normal ending and that's it. If you want to see what happens after the credits end, follow these steps.

  1. Find all the Dragon Tears and watch the memories associated with them.
  2. Once that is done, find the Master Sword.
  3. Finish any main quests you haven't beaten yet.
  4. Face off against the Demon King for the final time.

Once you defeat the Demon King Ganon in The Depths below Hyrule Castle, you will see the ending scene and then the credits. However, if you followed the steps above, you will get the extra special cutscene that makes all your hard work worthwhile.

2 What Happens In The True Ending?

Zelda turns back to human and reunites with Link

This is your final warning before seeing major spoilers for this ending.Once you have sat through the credits of the game, this final scene will start. In it, Link and a human Zelda are at the Temple of Time with each of the Sages. Mineru will be in spirit form, addressing those in attendance. She tells everyone that now that the Demon King has been defeated for good, her job is complete. She will then tell her tearful goodbyes to everyone before disappearing. Once her spirit is gone, Mineru's construct crumbles into a heap on the ground. The Sages all stand around as they promise to protect Hyrule from any future issues.

While Mineru does disappear in this ending, she will still be around when you reload your game and play in the post-game.

1 How Does This Change The Story?

Tears of the Kingdom - Ending

This ending ties the game together in a nice bow for the player. In the regular ending, you just see Zelda return to her human form. After that, the game fades to the credits and there is no special scene. In this version, you see her interacting with the Sages and watching as Mineru finally completes her mission and fades away. It gives the player satisfaction that the regular ending never did. At the end, all the Sages pledge their loyalty to Hyrule and Zelda, leaving the player with the feeling that come what may, Hyrule will live to see another day.
