What Does The Korok Mask Do?

The Korok Mask, other than providing the classy appearance of one of the little forest spirits, is it will alert you when you’re near a Korok Seed puzzle. When you near a hidden Korok, the mask will rattle and the pinwheel on the mask will spin. It’s not something you want to wear during your everyday adventuring, but it’s invaluable when you’re on the cusp of a new inventory upgrade — or you’re just eager to collect them all.

Where To Find The Korok Mask

The Korok Mask is hidden down in the Depths (directly below Great Hyrule Forest), and to earn it, you’ll have to overcome a great coliseum challenge. But, in order to do that, you’ll first need to get there.

To begin, head to Woodland Stable, located west of Hyrule Castle and northeast of the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower. If you’ve already visited, Ekochiu Shrine is located just to the north.

From Woodland Stable, make your way along the road north, past the Great Fairy Fountain, through Minshi Woods, and to the Minshi Woods Chasm.

You’ll want to enter the Depths from Minshi Woods Chasm.

Parts of this area will be extremely hot due to its proximity to Death Mountain. Make sure to bring along some Fireproof Elixirs or have your Flamebreaker armor ready to equip.

Upon landing in the Depths and lighting up your immediate surroundings with Brightbloom Seeds, face northwest; you should spot a Lightroot in that direction. You’re aiming to uncover the Rikonasum Lightroot, which is located below the Great Hyrule Forest.

Make sure to equip your Depths armor set or Midna’s Helmet for extra Gloom Resistance — the Depths is an inhospitable place.

Follow the path of Poe clusters heading northwest. You’ll know you’re heading in the right direction when you notice the strange fog pooling along the cavernous ceiling above; this is the darkness clinging to the Great Hyrule Forest. Your location welcome to Korok Grove will soon follow.

Watch out for grabby Gloom Hands. You’re unlikely to get through this area without confronting them, so prepare to find a high spot from which to destroy them.

You’ll encounter several Lightroots along the path in this direction. Light what you can along the way; it’ll make navigating the Depths all the easier.

Rikonasum Lightroot can be found just beside the raised structure that allows you to Ascend up from the Depths into the heart of the Great Hyrule Forest. From the Rikonasum Lightroot, continue heading northwest; just past the massive tree roots, you’ll spot your next Lightroot in the distance.

Once you reach this one (Ramobnukas Lightroot), you’ve almost reached your destination. When the Ramobnukas Lightroot clears its patch of the map, you’ll spot the coliseum destination just westnorthwest from your current location. Simply make your way to the Forest Coliseum, and the journey part of this quest will be complete.

To make things easier, you’ll also spot a trail of Mighty Bananas leading you toward your destination.

How To Beat The Forest Coliseum

Follow the trail of Mighty Bananas to the central dais to trigger the obvious Yiga trap (who else love bananas as much as the Yiga?).

Two Yiga assassins will appear, but you will not be battling them; instead, prepare to do battle with a vicious Black Hinox.

While many other Coliseum challenges involve five waves of increasingly difficult combat encounters, the Forest Coliseum only features a single opponent: the Black Hinox.

When the battle begins, ready your Recall ability; the Black Hinox will open by throwing an explosive barrel at you. If you can successfully Recall it, it'll provide some quick initial damage to start out the fight. After that, The Black Hinox will pursue you relentlessly.

Your main strategy here, like many Hinox fights, is to put enough distance between you and the Black Hinox to turn, ready your bow, and shoot the Black Hinox right in the eye. When you land a successful hit on its eye, it will clutch its face in pain and collapse to the ground for a few moments. This is your chance to rush in and attack with your strongest weapons. When the Black Hinox begins to recover and stand back up, run away to put enough distance between you two to ready and land another shot.

Don't get greedy here; if you linger too long after the Black Hinox recovers, it can do some serious damage to you.

After a few rounds of this eye snipe into melee carnage strategy, assuming you have decently powerful weapons available, you'll be able to complete this battle in no time.

Upon defeat, the chest across the Coliseum arena will become available. Inside, you will find your new Korok Mask. Wear it with pride, hero.
