Quick Links
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers a wide variety of armors to acquire, whether through long and involved side quests like the Froggy Armor or purchasing the Flamebreaker Armor from a shop in Gordon City.
The Well-Worn Hair Band is fairly easy to acquire — so long as you know exactly where to look. The Well-Worn Hair Band offers Link his hairstyle used during his adventure in Breath of the Wild, giving players a nostalgic look during their quest to find the lost Princess.
Visit Link’s House In Hateno Village
To acquire the Well-Worn Hair Band, you’ll need to travel to Hateno Village in East Necluda. The easiest way to reach Hateno Village will be to continue eastward after passing through Kakariko Village.
Once you arrive and finish visiting the Dye Shop, beginning the election side quest, and visiting Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, you’ll want to visit Link and Zelda’s house.
Veterans of Breath of the Wild will recall the side quest that involved Link claiming and building out a house in Hateno Village. Revisiting it in Tears of the Kingdom, it’s clear Link and Zelda live there together — at least until the Princess went missing.
Descend Into Zelda’s Secret Well
While exploring the house and grounds, you’ll discover Zelda’s journal, which hints at a secret room that she uses for privacy: “It’s dim but humidity- temperature-controlled, so it’s very comfortable.”
Venture outside and run toward the back of the house. Past the stables, you’ll spot a circular well entrance. Take the ladder down.
You’ll find yourself in Zelda’s Secret Well, a location that she uses when she wants to work alone and needs to concentrate.
In this well, you’ll spot a workbench with a chest resting beside it. Open the chest to acquire the Well-Worn Hair Band.
Well-Worn Hair Band Stats
Unlike other helmets and similar gear in Tears of the Kingdom, the Well-Worn Hair Band offers zero additional defenses and cannot be upgraded at Great Fairy Fountains. The item is more an accessory than a stat-driven fit, so the decision of whether or not to sport Link’s iconic ponytail is one completely dominated by aesthetic preference. It might not offer the same kind of sturdy protection as the Soldier’s Helm or the Gloom Resistance of Midna’s Helmet, but what it lacks in raw defense it more than makes up for in style.
Begin A New Champion’s Tunic Side Quest
Before you leave, make sure to examine Zelda’s journal on the workbench down in the well. It will detail a piece of armor Zelda had prepared to surprise Link with before the Upheaval. This will begin a side quest: A New Champion’s Tunic and will detail how to acquire the Champion's Leathers chest piece, the armor that Link was wearing at the very start of the game.
