Bubbul Gems is a new collectible item in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and they can be used to unlock unique monster-themed gear. However, you'll need to complete a few quests first. Here's everything you'll need to know about getting Bubbul Gems and how to use them.

Updated by Erin Rice on May 31, 2023: As The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom matures, players begin to learn more about how the world of the game works. This update provides information on where players can find Koltin after first locating him outside of Tarrey Town. It also offers a look at the many different rewards players can receive from trading Bubbul Gems with Koltin.

Getting Bubbul Gems

Link stares at a Bubbulfrog clinging to the roof of a cave.

There is only one way in the game to get Bubbul Gem: Finding and beating up Bubbulfrogs. Thankfully, there are a lot of ways to tell where a Bubbulfrog might be.

For starters, these quick-but-harmless amphibians are only found in caves, so don't expect to see one in any old shrine. While most caves have a Bubbulfrog, they can be a bit tricky to find, often clinging to the ceilings or hiding away in back corners. If you're having trouble spotting a nearby Bubbulfrog, keep an ear out for the distinctive noise they make.

Link approaches a wary Satori in Hyrule Field.

Most caves that have Bubbulfrogs will also have a Satori, the small, blue, glowing bunnies, sitting outside the entrance. When approached, it'll run toward the mouth of the cave, conveniently pointing you toward a nearby Bubbulfrog.

If these two methods aren't helping you find frogs fast enough, you can always talk to Kolton after finishing his quests. He'll be more than happy to point you in the direction of a nearby Bubbulfrog.

Completing Koltin's Quests

The location for Koltin's Balloon behind the Woodland Stable.

If you want to unlock Koltin's shop, the first step is to find Koltin and Kilton by the Woodland Stables just east of Hyrule Castle. You can spot them by looking out for their colorful hot air balloon lying on a beach. After talking with Kiltin, you'll be asked to give a Bubbul Gem to Koltin so that he can fulfill his life-long dream. If you don't have one already, there's a Bubbulfrog in the cave just behind their ballon.

After you give Koltin a gem, he'll reward you with a Bokoblin Mask and realize that his dream won't be so easy to fulfill; he'll need lots more Bubbul Gems.

The location for the Monster Shop just outside of Terry Town.

Once both Koltin and Kilton leave, head towards Terry Town, which is even further to the east. There you'll speak with Kilton, who will point you toward the hill where his brother has set up shop. This shop only opens at night, but when you visit it, you'll be able to turn in increasing amounts of Bubbul Gems for monster-themed armor.

Spending Bubbul Gems

Link crouches outside of Koltin's Monster Shop.

Bubbul Gems are, first are foremost, a way to unlock new monster-themed armor sets. You can also obtain many Monster Parts and a new armor set, the Mystic Armor set, by trading these Bubbul Gems with Koltin. These items you get from Koltin (aside from the Monster Parts) cannot be obtained any other way in the game. This means if you want these pieces of armor, you need to find as many Bubbulfrogs as you can.
