Throughout your journey in Tears of the Kingdom, you will be required to ride a horse on several occasions. What could be more exciting than riding a horse that has been adored by fans of the Zelda series since the 1990s? With the release of TotK, Nintendo has brought back everyone's favorite horse Epona, but there are two specific methods that need to be completed in order to claim this iconic mount.

Epona Tears Of The Kingdom

Epona may be acquired in a few different ways, one of which is via scanning the Link Super Smash Bros. and Link Twilight Princess Amiibos. Just like in Breath of the Wild, you can scan Amiibos in order to get Epona and use her.

After you have successfully collected one of the aforementioned Amiibos, get into the game and activate the Amiibo as one of your abilities. Place one of the Amiibo figurines on the right joystick of your Switch console at this time. There is an NFC touchpoint located on the right joystick, which enables players to scan their Amiibo figures and unlock in-game content.

After successfully scanning the Amiibos, you will usually find a chest in front of you on your game screen. If you are lucky enough, rather than a chest, Epona will spawn in the world in front of you. You can only scan an Amiibo once per day through your Switch, so you will need to come back the next day and repeat the procedure in order to get Epona. After you have obtained Epona, you'll need to ride her to the nearest stable to register her.

Even after registering the mount, you can continue to earn duplicate Eponas via Amiibo.

Link Choosing Epona From Stable

If you have Epona in Breath of the Wild, and you have the game data linked to your account, you'll actually have a pretty easy time acquiring Epona. Fortunately, Nintendo stores the save files of every Nintendo game that you play on your Switch.

If you have a save file from Breath of the Wild that includes Epona, then the horse will be imported into Tears of the Kingdom automatically. You can receive your horse when you visit the stable for the first time. After reaching the stable, interact with the owner. The owner will recognize you and acknowledge you for being a good customer. You will then find all of your Breath of the Wild horses automatically registered at the TotK stables, allowing you to ride them all into this incredible sequel — including the beloved horse, Epona.
