How To Buy Sunset Fireflies

Link buys Sunset Fireflies from Beedle at the Highland Stable.

The fastest and easiest way to get Sunset Fireflies is to buy them. You can purchase up to three at a time from Beedle at the Highland Stable for 10 rupees each. Keep in mind that Beedle won't sell Sunset Fireflies anywhere else you find him; you have to meet him at the Highland Stable.

Buying from him is by far the easiest way to get Sunset Fireflies, but paying 10 rupees for such a common ingredient isn't always the best idea. Also, keep in mind that you won't be able to buy too many at one time. The method of getting Sunset Fireflies is best saved for when you only need a few more. For example, it can be a good way to quickly complete the nearby Great Fairy Fountain quest.

Where To Find Sunset Fireflies

The player looks at a few good locations to find Sunset Fireflies.

If you need more than a few Sunset Fireflies, you'll have to catch them on your own. You can find these nocturnal bugs all across Hyrule, but they only spawn at night in certain conditions.

You'll want to look around lakes and ponds in the middle of a forest at night. The shallower the lake, the better, but don't bother looking in areas like the Rabella Wetlands.

Sunset Fireflies will only spawn in more temperate forests, so cold mountains and tropical jungles are out of the question as well.

There are a few locations that are particularly good for finding Sunset Fireflies. Satori Mountain, to the southwest of Hyrule Castle, has a bunch of small ponds that spawn fireflies. Batrea Lake by the Riverside Stable has a few good locations for Sunset Fireflies. The Pagos and Finra Woods near the Highland Stable are both great places to find these bugs, and of course, Hopper Pond on the Great Plateau has always been one of the best locations to stock up on fireflies.

How To Catch Sunset Fireflies

Link stares at a group of Sunset Fireflies by Hopper Pond.

Once you've found a bunch of Sunset Fireflies, all that's left to do is catch them. If you just run at them, the fireflies will scatter quickly and, more often than not, leave you empty-handed. Instead, the trick is to sneak up on them. By doing this, you'll keep them from running away and be able to get more fireflies per location you visit. This strategy also works on tons of other valuable critters. Fairies, Deep Fireflies, Restless Crickets, and many more bugs are best caught by sneaking up behind them instead of running.

Keep in mind that not every point of light is a Sunset Firefly, so don't be disappointed when you only get one or two out of what seems like dozens of them.
