One similar item is the Dark Clump. When this is cooked in a meal, it creates a meal that has Gloom Resistance. This is vital to anyone who is exploring The Depths, fighting Ganon, or is just trying to explore Hyrule and keeps running into the Gloom Spawn. Here is a guide on Dark Clumps and how to farm them.

What Are Dark Clumps?

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Dark Clump

Dark Clumps are one of the many items added to the game in The Depths. Their description reads "An unusual substance, it’s cold to the touch, and it seems as though it’s filled with pitch-black darkness. Use it in cooking to get a gloom-resistant effect." While they only sell for 5 Rupees and have a Fuse Attack Power of 1, they are an excellent source of Gloom Resistance. You do not want to cook a Dark Clump by itself, this will result in dubious food. These can only be used in recipes with other ingredients. The more Dark Clumps you add to a recipe, the longer your Gloom Resistance will last. For example, using 3 Dark Clumps with anything from any of the Dragons will give you 30 minutes of Gloom Resistance. This meal is one of the best Gloom Resistance meals in the entire game. You will certainly will want some good Gloom Resistance Meals when you take on Ganon for the final time.

Pairing the Gloom Resistance meals with Sunny meals will make your adventures in The Depths and your fight against Ganon a breeze. Sunny meals can be made with Sundelions and will heal any Hearts lost to Gloom. While the Dark Clumps add to your Gloom Resistance, they do not make you Gloom Resistant. You can still be harmed by the Gloom, just not nearly as much with these recipes.

How To Find Dark Clumps

Dark Clumps only have 2 known ways to be found. You need to either trade for them or kill Gloom Spawn and Phantom Ganon. Unfortunately, these are the only two ways to obtain the items as of now. This makes farming for them to be a little difficult. However, if you understand The Depths, you can make the most of your time and obtain all the Dark Clumps you could ever need.

Trading For Dark Clumps

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Dark Clump

If you want to easily get Dark Clumps, you'll need to trade Poes with the Bargainer Statues. In order to do this, you'll need to find one of the 7 Bargainer Statues in the game. They can be found in the following areas (all are in The Depths other than the first).

  1. Lookout Landing
  2. Great Abandoned Central Mine
  3. The Cliffs
  4. The Plains
  5. Wellspring of Courage
  6. Wellspring of Power
  7. Wellspring of Wisdom

Once you find one of these Bargainer Statues, you'll need 10 Poes per Dark Clump you purchase. They have 10 Dark Clumps available at any given time. They'll restock every 2 in-game days.

Gloom Spawn

TOTK Gloom Hands

Gloom Spawn are the Gloom hands that will follow Link around wherever he goes. They are notoriously difficult to defeat. However, defeating them will reward you with some Dark Clumps. Unfortunately, your victory won't last long. As soon as they are destroyed, you'll need to fight the next enemy. If you want to find some, you can find them around the 3 Dark Skeletons in The Depths.

Phantom Ganon

TOTK Phantom Ganon In Field

Phantom Ganon will spawn after defeating the Gloom Spawn. Once you defeat him, you will not only get Gloom Weapons, but you will also be able to get some more Dark Clumps for your collection.

If you're wanting to farm Dark Clumps, the easiest way is to find Poes to trade with the Bargainer Statues. They are found all throughout The Depths at various locations. Their bright blue glow makes them easier to spot against the darkness. The best places to look are the abandoned mines. They will have Poes located in higher-up areas that require the Ascend Ability. These Poes in these areas are usually Large Poes and Grand Poes. Here is the best order to travel to the different abandoned mines.

  1. Abandoned Hebra Mine
  2. Abandoned Kara Kara Mine
  3. Abandoned Gerudo Mine
  4. Great Abandoned Central Mine
  5. Abandoned Lurelin Mine
  6. Abandoned Hateno Mine
  7. Abandoned Kakariko Mine
  8. Abandoned Lanayru Mine
