Fuse is for some the most exciting ability in The Legend of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom. The ability to craft your own weapons seamlessly on the fly is game-changing, to say the least, but the complexities of this system can get a little overwhelming.

Which items should you save to fuse? And how exactly do different weapons interact with different materials? It can take a lot of experimenting to learn the system, so here's everything you might want to know about the Fuse Ability.

How To Get The Fuse Ability

Link Standing In Front Of A Raft

You can get the Fuse ability less than an hour into the game. All you need to do is find the In-isa Shrine on the Great Sky Plateau. However, you'll likely have to complete the Ukouh Shrine first and use the Ultra Hand ability to reach it.

Once inside the shrine, you'll receive the Fuse ability and be presented with a few simple tasks to help you get a feel for it.

How To Use The Fuse Ability

Link prepares to fuse a horn to a weapon in Akkala.

Fusing two items together is as simple as hitting the left bumper, selecting the Fuse ability, and looking at the item on the ground you'd like to fuse. Then either hit the left trigger or the Y button to merge the item with your equipped shield or weapon respectively. If you mess up, don't worry. These items can be unfused, and it's usually pretty easy to do.

The fused equipment will receive properties of both the base equipment and the fusion material attached to it. For example, a shield with a Fire Fruit will light enemies on fire when they hit it and a sword fused to another sword will have significantly more reach.

Fused weapons will also receive a damage and durability bonus based on the fusion materials' Fuse Attack Power. If you're fusing with an item in your inventory, you can see this number beforehand, but if you're ever unsure, remember that rare monster parts like horns, claws, and tails tend to have the highest Fuse Attack Power.

The fusion fun doesn't end there. You can also fuse materials onto your arrows, creating any kind of arrow you could want on the fly. Simply hit up on the D-pad while aiming with your bow and select the materials you'd like to use.

There are some fascinating combos, like Keese Eyes which will give your arrows a homing effect, and Rockets which will launch them forward at ridiculous speeds, so don't be afraid to waste a few arrows trying out which ones you like best.

How To Make Great Fusion Weapons

Link holds a Ice-Breath Lizal Blade in Akkala.

While Fuse seems relatively straightforward, the various items in the game make it a surprisingly complicated system with lots of ins and outs you'll have to learn.

For example, most weapons in the game have special properties, such as the Sturdy Stick which comes with extra durability. These properties carry over to any fusion you create with that weapon, allowing you to pick and choose how you want to use it. Fusion materials like the Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horn also have a similar dynamic, turning any weapon it's attached to into a fire weapon.

On top of that, the base weapon will determine how the fusion weapon attacks, no matter what it's fused with. Long sticks turn into spears. Short blades become swords, and larger hammers and claymores retain their heavy swings. You can determine which weapon uses which attack pattern by looking at the symbol next to its power.

Creating great fusion weapons is about balancing all of these factors and keeping an eye out for the more devastating combos. But sometimes, all you need to create a great weapon is a bit of creativity. You probably already know just how deadly a Flame-Emitter Shield can be.
