The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom is a massive game full of things for players to do. One thing you may wonder about during the opening zone is when you will be able to travel fast around the area. After all, Hyrule is a huge place, to begin with; adding in the additional areas in the sky, Link has a lot of traveling to do.

Fast traveling allows Link to travel to key areas of the map quickly. Unfortunately, this feature isn't something that is automatically given to the player. You must complete a few steps before you are able to travel around the map through fast travel.

How To Unlock Fast Travel

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Temple of Time

While it isn't automatically unlocked, fast travel is unlocked for Link pretty early on in the game. Once Link wakes up in the Awakening Room and is tasked by Rauru to open the door at the Temple of Time to find Zelda, you will need to complete the three Shrines located on the island. These Shrines are the Ukouh Shrine (where you obtain the Ultrahand Ability), the Gutanbac Shrine (where you obtain the Ascend Ability), and the In-isa Shrine (where you obtain the Fusion Ability).

After you complete those Shrines, you can enter into the Temple of Time. Once inside, you will obtain the ability to rewind time and can use that to reach the second level of the Temple. On this level, you will find a Goddess Statue and a door behind it. Upon trying to open the door, Link will be told he must complete a fourth Shrine. The conclusion of this cutscene ends with Rauru telling Link he can now fast-travel to the different Shrines across the island.

What Are Fast Travel Points?

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Map

Throughout the game, you will come across four different types of fast travel points. These are Lightroots, Shrines, Skyview Towers, and Travel Medallions. Shrines, being the main objective in the introductory quest, should be well-known to players. However, the other three might not be. Lightroots are shining areas underground Link can interact with. This will allow him to travel back to the area later on. Skyview Towers are tall towers that allow Link to reach the sky and view details of both the surface area and sky area. Finally, Travel Medallions are obtained by working with Robbie. Overall, Link can have three of these Medallions. Each one allows the Link to travel to wherever it is placed.
