Frustratingly, your Energy Cell can only carry a limited charge, and if that charge runs out while in the middle of something important, it can land you in quite a bit of trouble. Thankfully, there is a way to increase how much charge your Energy Cell can carry. Here's everything you need to know about upgrading your Energy Cell.

Updated By Nick McDonald on May 30, 2023: The Energy Cell is a core part of The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom since you'll need it to fuel whatever devious Zonai contraptions you dream up. While upgrading your Energy Cell is a basic task, it's something that you'll have to do a lot throughout the game, so any small tip will help you save tons of time. With that in mind, we clarified and added a few points to help you better find Forge Constructs, Crystal Refineries, and Crystallized Charges.

How To Upgrade Your Energy Cell

A Steward Construct hands Link the Energy Cell on the Great Sky Island.

Upgrading your Energy Cell is simple in essence. Much like upgrading your health or stamina, you can trade a specific resource at designated locations in order to expand your cell's capacity. Unlike health and stamina, however, you'll need Crystallized Charges and plenty of them.

To get Crystallized Charges, you'll have to visit special Forge Constructs run by Steward Constructs and purchase them with raw Zoanite. Each forge will replenish its stock occasionally, so you can just keep visiting the same one over and over again, but there is a catch. Forge Constructs you find later in the game will tend to have more Crystalized Charges on sale at the same time, meaning you don't have to wait as long for the store to resupply.

There are a few other ways to get Crystalized Charges. Defeating bosses in the Depths, clearing out Yiga Clan strongholds, finding new Forge Constructs, and following the Master Kohga Of The Yiga Clan quest will all reward you with a sizable number of charges and act as a decent alternative to gathering heaps and heaps of Zoanite.

Once you have enough Crystallized Charges, you can make your way to a Crystal Refinery to turn those charges in for a permanent expansion to your Energy Cell. It'll cost 100 Crystallized Charges each time you want to upgrade your Energy Cell's capacity, so make sure you come prepared. You can have up to 16 full batteries with 3 Energy Wells each, meaning you can upgrade your battery 45 times for a total cost of 4,500 Crystallized Charges.

Where To Find Forge Constructs and Crystal Refineries

If you're having trouble finding Forge Constructs or a Crystal Refinery, look no further than the Great Sky Island, the starting zone in the sky. This island has both a Crystal Refinery and a small Forge Construct located conveniently near Nachoyah Shrine.

If you can't be bothered to travel back to the tutorial zone, you can find another Crystal Refineries just outside of Lookout Landing. These two locations are the only Crystal Refineries in the game, however, so you'll have to choose one or the other whenever you have enough Crystalized Charges.

If you need to find more Forge Constructs, there's not much you can do except look high and low for them — literally. Unlike most Zonai-themed structures, you'll find these Forge Constructs in the Depths. Specifically, they tend to be located under settlements, both historic and current. For example, while you won't find one under Lookout Landing, you will find a Forge Construct under Tarry Town and the Great Plateau.
