Diablo 4's open-world concept is a big hit, a change from previous titles. As part of making this world feel lived-in and alive, the game includes a myriad of side quests for players to explore. As if the fun of it wasn't motivation enough to complete these quests, side quests give renown, gold, experience, and crafting materials as rewards.
Most quests are a simple formula - go here, collect that, and return to the start. However, some are more complex. Salt Begets Salt, found in the Dry Steppes, is one such quest. For tips on picking up this quest, how to find Tuji the goat, and what you'll get out of it, keep on reading.
Updated by Abigail Angell on August 11th, 2023: The rewards for completing the Salt Begets Salt Quest have changed slightly following the Season 1 Renown changes. To keep this guide as accurate as possible, it has been updated to reflect those changes.
Where To Find Salt Begets Salt
Salt Begets Salt is located in the Untamed Scarps area of the Dry Steppe. To pick up the quest, speak with Jargal just outside the Jirandai Waypoint. Upon speaking with him, he will give you cryptic instructions on finding his goat Tuji, saying that a jealous merchant stole him and headed toward Qara Yisu.
How To Complete Salt Begets Salt
In order to complete this quest, you'll need to find Tuji. This is easier said than done, as the area mentioned by Jargal is quite far away and difficult to search. Why, you ask? Well, because Qara Yisu is a Stronghold for the Dry Steppe region. In order to find Tuji:
- Speak with Jargal
- Clear the Qara Yisu Stronghold
- Search the ruins for the body of Tuji the goat
- Interact with the body to receive a quest item, which you will take back to Jargal
- Speak with Jargal to complete the quest
Tracking a quest causes the objectives to shimmer slightly, which might help you pick out Tuji's body in the landscape.
Salt Begets Salt Quest Rewards
Completing this side quest nets you +30 Renown thanks to the changes to the Renown system in Season 1. Additionally, it gives gold and experience scaled to your character's current level. Finally, as thanks for your help, Jargal will present you with a Salvage Cache. Open this to obtain several randomly rolled crafting materials. Possible drops from Salvage Caches include:
