The first trailer for the upcoming Five Night at Freddy's movie has been leaked online. The video was shared by multiple accounts popped on YouTube at roughly the same time on Saturday. The trailer video is stamped over with bright white coded text which partially obscures the view of the action onscreen, so it's rather obvious that the world is not supposed to be seeing it yet.

This isn't the first leak for the FNAF movie, as production stills of the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza set, one of which is contained in the leaked trailer, showed up online around the beginning of March.

For reasons of legality and respect for the creators, we won't be sharing any of the leaked trailer videos here, but easy enough to find online (for the time being), and the ones we've seen appear to be legitimate.

As we know from information that has already been legitimately released, the movie, which will star Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson, will follow the story of security guard Mike Schmidt as he discovers the horrors of four animatronic restaurant mascots/performers that kill after midnight. The trailer, which runs just over two and a half minutes, indeed does feature images of Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica, both onstage and in attack mode. Additionally, there are plenty of references that tie the movie into the lore from the original Five Nights at Freddy's games by creator Scott Cawthon, such as characters discussing the animatronics being possessed by the spirits of dead children, Freddy's iconic baritone laugh, and a music box-like rendition the Toreador March, which Freddy plays in the original game just before killing a player who has expended all their allotted electricity.

Early reports of the movie's plot seem to contain deviations from the original game series lore — which is already purposefully left up to interpretation — but that wouldn't be the first time this has happened. There are multiple licensed Five Nights at Freddy's novel series, each with their own changes to the storyline set up by the games, and Cawthon has stated in the past that all are correct, if not subject to their own timelines.

At roughly the same time that the trailer videos started appearing, another YouTube user, @ Sluurp TV, posted a Short to the platform claiming to contain the first scene of the movie. The short starts off looking legitimate enough, complete with scrolling text at the bottom of the screen that says, in part, "not for sale or rental." However, after some brief opening credits and the infamous telephone guy's "Hello, hello," is heard, a CGI Freddy Fazbear jumps onto the screen and, after apologizing for interrupting the movie, reminds us all in a doofy voice that "Piracy is a crime"; an expertly crafted and well-timed trolling for the leakers.

For all those FNAF fans patient enough to ait for it, The Five Nights at Freddy's Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on October 27.
