Delivering on a promise he made to his fans last weekend, popular streamer Markiplier has given a first peek at the video game movie adaptation he has been working on. Revealed on his YouTube channel on Friday, the movie will be an adaptation of the 2022 submarine-themed sci-fi horror title Iron Lung.

Markiplier, real name Mark Fischbach, went into a 40-minute livestream this past Sunday, April 16, to discuss his general absence from his popular YouTube channel — which has about 34.7 million subscribers — in order to both dispel rumors that he had been working on the Five Nights at Freddy's movie and to draw attention to his own film project. However, he did not reveal the subject matter of the movie, which he is both directing and starring in, until the trailer posted to his channel today. He has also indicated that the movie will be a theatrical release, although he has not specified if it will be limited to select markets or if it will be a nationwide or worldwide release.

Developed by David Szymanski, who is also known for 2018 first-person shooter Dusk, Iron Lung has the player assuming the role of a convict who is sealed and confined into a small submarine, appropriately named Iron Lung, while exploring the undersea depths of a distant moon. Taking the helm of this vessel, the player must search for resources while battling dwindling oxygen levels, fire, and pressure damage, as well as the horrors that exist outside the sealed vessel. It currently sits at a "Very Positive" rating on Steam, with more than 5,000 reviews received. The game has been praised for its atmospheric horror, taking place in a fully-rendered 3D world, but giving you no windows with which to view it, instead forcing the player to rely on the submarine's grainy camera.

The streamer-turned-director has a video on his YouTube channel from May 2022 in which he plays through Iron Lung. The new trailer actually opens on in-game footage of Iron Lung, panning and rotating the camera before showing what appears to be the film version's controls of the titular submarine, and ending on the logo.

As for the Five Nights at Freddy's movie, Markiplier has been clear that his limited time streaming and creating gaming-related videos as of late has been tied to the creation of the Iron Lung film. That being said, he has hinted that he may know some secrets about creator Scott Cawthon's production, which is scheduled for a theatrical release in late October, so it is still possible that Markipler will have involvement with that film as well.
